This month saw a report from the City Hall Police and Crime committee calling on the Mayor to step up work to end violence against women and girls.

Our response sets out the necessity for London's Rape Crisis Centres and survivor services across the city, providing a real opportunity to engage all statutory and non-statutory agencies, to work holistically together in London to offer safe spaces for women to access the specialist support they deserve without stigmatisation.

However, I was also dismayed to read, yet again, more research outlining the "vulnerabilities" of women subjected to violence and abuse with little understanding and focus on the tactics used by men who are perpetrating these horrendous acts against women and girls. So often we’re asked how women can protect themselves - perhaps we should follow the safety measures in this short tongue in cheek video?

IDEVAW and 16 days of Activism

It's hard to believe that in a world where 1 in 3 women experience some form of physical or sexual violence, often from men they know, love and trust, occurs in the same world where a man who makes 'jokes' about sexual assault and who has multiple allegations of sexual violence against him has just been elected President of United States and is in the running to be voted TIME person of the year.

#BreakTheSilence
In our very first September issue we shared our ground-breaking #BreakTheSilence videos featuring BAFTA winner Georgina Campbell. The short films show a survivor calling the National Rape Crisis Helpline, meeting with an Independent Sexual Violence Advocate (ISVA) at Rape Crisis South London, choosing to report to the police, and going to court to give evidence. We're thrilled our videos have received this nomination and would be even more delighted to win! If you liked the videos please do vote for us here ».
